Fall practice was off and running for the Golden Eagle Nine when one of our teammates was pulled from action. Jeff Gersch, a freshman outfielder from Joliet, IL, complained of dizziness and blurred vision, which resulted in Jeff missing the remainder of fall practice and our SU World Series. After further testing and countless doctor visits, Jeff was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and is currently being issued a pump system to regulate his insulin levels.
As a team, this hit home with our guys and watching Jeff adjust to his new awareness his health and the changes in his lifestyle has touched many of our players.
Here at Spalding U, we are a clean shaven program. Our guys are committed to “looking the part” every day and most definitely do our part in helping keep razor companies in business. Keeping Jeff in our mind, we are now committing to something different…“No Shave November”; where during the entire month of November, our players and coaches will grow out our facial hair (for some of the guys, they will “attempt” to grow hair…) and work towards crowning the winner of the 1st annual SU Best Beard Contest.
Now, here is where YOU come in...check out our website and vote daily on who you think is working towards the Best Beard on our team. You can also help move us towards our program goal of raising $1,000 for the American Diabetes Association. VOTE TODAY, VOTE EVERY DAY, and please make a donation to help the ADA in their fight with Diabetes. Thank you for all your support of the U and the ADA!
